You can get tomatoes year round since they’re often grown in hot houses but the really tasty, funny looking heirloom tomatoes are available during the summer. Tomato seeds are extremely resilient and can survive the digestive tracts of most animals, including humans, to sprout up just about anywhere. They’re technically classified as berries in the fruit family and are a great source of vitamin C. They are also high in the antioxidant lycopene which has been known to reduce a man’s risk for prostate cancer. So this summer enjoy your tomatoes.
