If you drink coffee there’s some good news about your risk for developing diabetes. A recent study showed that those who drank 4 or more cups of coffee a day were 50% less likely to develop type 2 diabetes, the most common type of diabetes in adults. The reason, this study went on to say, is that there are compounds in coffee that inhibit hiAPP, human islet amyloid polypeptide, which is a substance linked to diabetes. Now, with this news I wouldn’t run off and start drinking coffe like it’s a medicine. It’s still best to eat a healthy diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and to exercise regularly, but if you do drink coffee you may be keeping diabetes at bay.
