Hi I’m Doctor Mark Savant and welcome to SavantMD. Today is World’s Alzheimer’s Day. Alzheimer’s is a disease that has symptoms of progressive memory loss and an overall decline in mental function that gets worse over time. Signs of early Alzheimer’s will include difficulty remembering recent events, trouble finding the right word, trouble with complex tasks like paying bills and getting lost or disoriented in familiar places. People with Alzheimer’s do not die from the disease, but rather other illnesses that may result from their inability to care for themselves, such as pneumonia or dehydration. There are medications that can help slow the progression of the disease, but as of yet, there is no cure.
