Here’s another reason to avoid second hand smoke. A recent study published by the National Institutes of Health found that being exposed to second hand smoke in an enclosed area for an hour triggered the same receptors in the brain for those not smoking as for those smoking. And these triggered receptors increased nicotine cravings in smokers. Past research has shown that chronic exposure to second hand smoke can increase a child’s risk for becoming a smoker as a teenager and can increase a person’s risk for heart disease and lung cancer. There seems to be no middle ground when smoking is involved. When it comes to smoking, the best thing you can do is to avoid it altogether.
