Did you know that over 1,000,000 people a year suffer from the effects of burns and over 1/3 of them end up in the emergency room.
Superficial burns will turn the skin red and dry and will blanch (the skin will turn white) when you press on the burn.
These superficial burns will usually heal within 3 to 6 days without scarring.
The first thing you should do to treat a burn is to remove any metal objects like jewelry and then cool the skin with cool water or with a saline soaked gauze.
There are other burns that can be more serious, these burns will not blanch when you press on them. This means the skin will not turn white when you press on it.
This can indicate a more serious burn and you should seek medical attention right way.
