The food we eat has a significant impact not only on our health but also on our mental function as well. This is especially true for children whose growing bodies and developing brains rely on good nutrition for the building blocks of sustained health and well being that will set the tone for the rest of their lives. This week is national school lunch week so please try to use this reminder to incorporate lots of fresh, seasonal fruits, vegetables and whole grains into your child’s diet and continue this year round. Healthy snacks like fresh fruit and nuts are easy to carry and supply many important vitamins, minerals, fiber, and the health promoting antioxidants. The chef Alice Waters has been working on this for years in Berkeley, California and the First Lady has taken on the eradication of childhood obesity as a project. So please choose fresh, healthy food for your kids and yourself.
