As you may have heard there’s a Pertussis epidemic in California at this time. Pertussis is whooping cough and most children will be immunized as infants but the effects of the vaccine wear off over time and now we are beginning to see the disease in adults as well. All children over age 7, adults, especially women of child-bearing age, and people over age 64 are being urged to get a booster shot of the pertussis vaccine, also known as Tdap. Here in the Bay Area, Contra Costa County, among others, will be offering the shot for free. Please check with you doctor or local health department to find out where you can get the booster shot.
