As you probably are aware, cases of the flu are way up. Usually we start seeing the flu around late October or November but it started as early as April this year.
Many of my patients have been worried about getting the H1N1 (Swine) flu and whether they’ll be able to get the vaccine.
Watch the video below or Read More.
It is true that the vaccine is not widely available yet. I’ve heard reasons, including that the vaccine is made in chicken eggs and it appears that fewer vaccines are being made per chicken egg than the regular seasonal flu vaccine yields. Also after potency tests, fewer vaccines are available per egg.
So how do you prevent yourself from getting sick? Wash your hands, don’t touch your face, cough into your elbow and stay away from others who are coughing.

We tell people to stay home if they think they have the flu. However, for certain symptoms you should seek medical attention right away. They include:
- Chest pain or shortness of breath
- Your lips turn blue or purple
- Dehydration (you are dizzy or unable to urinate)
Not getting the flu in the first place remains the best course of action. So remember, wash your hands and DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE. • About Dr. Savant
